Tetouan: a medina, a coastline and an economy reinventing itself
Tetouan's medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, keeps alive crafts with an Andalusian heritage: painted wood, zellige tilework, embroidery, ironwork and carved plaster. A few kilometres away, the coast of Martil, Cabo Negro, M'diq and Fnideq lives to the rhythm of summer, with holiday homes, hotels, shops and service providers. Long reliant on trade with Ceuta, the region has been converting its economy: business parks such as Tétouan Park, formal trade, logistics, industry and tourism are taking a growing share.
For many local businesses, this shift means moving from day-to-day management to structured management: proper invoices with the ICE number, tracked stock, a seasonal budget and cash planned ahead. That is exactly what SOGESTIO brings together in one database.
A business that doubles in summer: prepare the season with a budget
On the coast, a large part of annual revenue is made between June and September. On the Pro and Group plans, SOGESTIO lets you set a monthly budget per line, sales, purchases, salaries, rent, then compare budget and actuals every month with the variances.
Example: a drinks and grocery distributor budgets 180,000 DH of sales excluding VAT for July and achieves 150,000. The 30,000 DH gap, about 17% below budget, shows up at the end of the month rather than at year-end closing. The business can then adjust its August orders instead of holding stock that will only move the following summer.
- Monthly budget per line and budget versus actual comparison.
- Minimum stock alerts raised before the season and lowered after it.
- Purchase orders placed in spring, with receipts feeding stock at net purchase cost.
- Separate price lists for hotels, resellers and walk-in customers.
- Monthly revenue and best-selling products with gross margin in the reports.
Cash: getting through the low season without surprises
A seasonal business collects a lot in a short time but pays rent, salaries and suppliers all year round. The 13-week cash forecast combines customer receivables, supplier payables and upcoming due dates, so a dip can be seen several weeks ahead.
Cheques and bills of exchange (LCN) are tracked with bank, due date and status, bank statements are imported in MT940 or CSV format for reconciliation, and the petty cash book records money in and out. The dashboard sums up revenue, margin, cash, unpaid invoices and late payments.
Several outlets between Tetouan and the coast
One business often runs a warehouse in town and one or two shops on the coast. Each site is a warehouse in SOGESTIO, with its own movements, transfers and stocktaking. Cost centres, assigned to invoices and expenses, then give the result of each shop: you finally know whether the summer shop is profitable once its rent and wages are deducted.
A useful clarification: SOGESTIO is not a cash register. It produces no till receipts or Z reports; it manages invoiced sales, stock, purchasing and the company's petty cash. A retail shop selling over the counter therefore keeps its point-of-sale tool for checkout.
Medina craftsmen and business-park SMEs
A painted-wood or zellige workshop working for a hotel or a villa issues a quote, collects a deposit, then invoices the balance on delivery. SOGESTIO tracks each job in the Projects module, with the contract amount, costs and invoicing, and the customer can accept the quote online from the client portal. Documents are produced in Arabic, French or English.
SMEs in the region's business parks use supplier purchasing, stock valued at CMUP (weighted average cost), payroll with CNSS, AMO and IR, and the DAMANCOM preparation file. Entries are generated on the CGNC chart of accounts, and the financial statements remain to be reviewed by your chartered accountant.
An online service, from the medina to the beach
SOGESTIO has no office in Tetouan: it is an online service usable anywhere in Morocco, in Arabic, French or English, and setup is remote, with customers and items imported from Excel. The manager follows the shops from the Android app or the web app installed on iPhone. Offline, they can view data and enter quotes, draft invoices, payments and expenses; syncing happens when the network returns, and legal invoice numbers are then assigned by the server.
Businesses that prefer to keep their data on site can install the On-premise edition on their own server, through Docker or a Windows installer. The 14-day free trial needs no card; the Starter plan costs 199 DH/month excluding VAT and the Pro plan, which adds budgets, banking, accounting and payroll, 449 DH/month.
Frequently asked questions
Can we see the result of each shop separately?
Yes. Each shop can be a cost centre assigned to invoices and expenses, and SOGESTIO computes the result per cost centre. Stock, for its part, is tracked per warehouse.
How do we prepare the summer season budget?
Enter a monthly budget per line on the Pro or Group plan. Each month, SOGESTIO compares budget with actuals and shows the variances, so you can adjust orders during the season.
Does SOGESTIO replace the till in our Martil shop?
No. SOGESTIO is not point-of-sale software: no receipts and no Z report. It handles the company's invoicing, stock, purchasing, cash management and accounting alongside your till.
Can a medina craftsman write quotes in Arabic?
Yes. The interface works fully in right-to-left Arabic, and quotes and invoices can be issued in Arabic, French or English depending on the customer.
Is there a SOGESTIO branch in Tetouan?
No. SOGESTIO is an online service with no local branch. Everything is set up remotely, the subscription is paid by bank transfer, and the 14-day free trial lets you test before committing.
