Odoo alternative in Morocco: what are the options and how do you migrate?

Odoo alternatives in Morocco fall into six families: staying on Odoo with a different edition, hosting or partner, another open-source ERP, an international ERP, a cloud ERP designed for Morocco such as SOGESTIO, installed accounting and sales software, or a spreadsheet. The right choice comes from testing your real Moroccan documents and estimating the total cost over several years.

Why do Moroccan SMEs look for an Odoo alternative?

Odoo is a modular open-source ERP developed in Belgium, available as a free Community edition or a paid Enterprise edition; it is highly extensible, often implemented with an integration partner, and a Moroccan localization exists. Rather than criticisms, here are the questions businesses ask when they consider an alternative, to check in your own situation.

  • Project and partner: is an integration project needed, and can you evolve the system without depending on a single provider?
  • Moroccan localization: what does it cover in your version (CGNC, deduction statement for SIMPL-TVA, payroll with CNSS, AMO and IR, DAMANCOM, LCN)?
  • Version upgrades: according to the vendor's documentation, a major version is released every year and custom modules must be adapted before upgrading.
  • Community or Enterprise: according to the vendor, some apps, such as payroll or the Studio customisation tool, are Enterprise-only.
  • Total cost: subscription (per user for Enterprise, according to the vendor), hosting, configuration, development and training, estimated over three to five years.

What families of Odoo alternatives are there?

Replacing Odoo does not necessarily mean changing software. There are six families of solutions, each with its own implementation and cost logic; the table on this page compares them on neutral criteria.

  • Staying on Odoo differently: another edition, hosting (Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or your own servers, according to the vendor) or partner.
  • Another open-source ERP, with an integrator.
  • An international ERP, with a structured deployment project.
  • A cloud ERP designed for Morocco, such as SOGESTIO, ready to use.
  • Installed accounting and sales software on a PC or server.
  • A spreadsheet such as Excel, where numbering, VAT and stock stay manual.

How do you compare alternatives with your real documents?

A demo shows what a tool can do; a test scenario shows whether it does what you need. Replay about ten real operations in each shortlisted solution, with the person who handles them day to day: an invoice with two VAT rates and the customer's ICE number, a partial credit note, a partial delivery, a cheque or LCN with a due date, a bank reconciliation, the VAT return and a payslip.

A control example: an invoice with 8,000.00 DH excl. VAT at 20% and 2,000.00 DH excl. VAT at 10%. Each tool must show 1,600.00 DH of VAT at 20% and 200.00 DH at 10%, that is 1,800.00 DH of VAT and a total including VAT of 11,800.00 DH, then carry these amounts by rate into the return. Rates change with finance laws, so have your chartered accountant (expert-comptable) validate the settings.

How do you migrate from Odoo without losing your history?

According to the vendor's documentation, Odoo exports its lists in CSV or Excel format; SOGESTIO imports customers, suppliers, items, opening stock, opening balances and journal entries from Excel/CSV. Prepare the steps with your chartered accountant.

  • Export customers, suppliers and items, remove duplicates and fill in missing ICE numbers.
  • Set the opening stock per warehouse, with quantities and unit cost.
  • Carry over the opening trial balance and unpaid customer and supplier invoices, with their due dates.
  • Keep invoice numbering continuous: close the invoice series in Odoo and start the new one on the cut-over date, with no gap or duplicate.
  • Switch at the start of a period, ideally the start of the financial year, then run both tools in parallel for a few weeks, comparing revenue, VAT, receivables, payables and stock.
  • Keep Odoo archives readable for the whole legal retention period.

When is staying on Odoo the right decision?

Changing ERP carries an organisational cost. Staying on Odoo is reasonable if your highly specific processes rely on custom developments that work, if an in-house team or a trusted partner looks after your installation, and if your users are trained and satisfied. The alternative may then lie within Odoo itself: reviewing the edition, hosting or partner, or having the Moroccan localization coverage audited, then comparing that scenario with a change of tool over the same cost horizon.

SOGESTIO belongs to the family of cloud ERPs designed for Morocco: browser, Android app and iPhone through the installed web app, with an interface in French, fully right-to-left Arabic or English. Frequently asked questions

Is there an Odoo alternative suited to Moroccan SMEs?

Yes, several families exist: another open-source ERP, an international ERP, a cloud ERP designed for Morocco such as SOGESTIO, installed software or a spreadsheet. For an SME with common processes that wants Moroccan rules built in, a Moroccan cloud ERP avoids a configuration project.

Can I move my Odoo data into SOGESTIO?

Yes, through files: according to its documentation, Odoo exports its lists in CSV or Excel, then SOGESTIO imports customers, suppliers, items, opening stock, opening balances and journal entries. Invoices already issued stay archived in the old tool or as PDFs.

Is Odoo too complex for a small business?

It depends mostly on the gap between your needs and what has been installed. A small business that activates few modules, with a responsive partner, can use it very well. If you spend more time configuring than invoicing, compare it with a ready-to-use tool on a test scenario.

When in the year should I change ERP?

Ideally at the start of a financial year: opening balances are the closing ones and invoice numbering restarts cleanly. Otherwise, choose the start of a month or quarter, after filing the previous period in the old tool. Confirm the date with your chartered accountant.

Can SOGESTIO be customised like Odoo?

SOGESTIO is configurable (VAT rates, custom roles, payment terms, price lists) and connects to your other tools through its REST API, signed webhooks and Shopify and WooCommerce order import. It is not designed for building custom modules: if that is your main need, Odoo or another extensible ERP is a better fit.

How much does SOGESTIO cost, and can I try it?

Starter is 199 DH excl. VAT/month, Pro 449 DH excl. VAT/month and Group 990 DH excl. VAT/month, plus 20% VAT, with about 17% off on annual billing; On-premise is quoted on request. The free trial lasts 14 days, with no credit card, and the data you enter is kept if you subscribe.
